Obiano meets with 177 traditional rulers, partners them to re-activate cultural sites for tourism


www.odogwublog.com reports that the State Government is to partner traditional rulers in identifying
cultural potentials in the various communities across the state with a view to developing them for improved tourist gains.

 Governor Willie disclosed this during a meeting he held with Traditional Rulers in the state at Government House, Awka.

 Governor Obiano, who said the present administration is taking proactive steps to reposition the state culture and tourism to showcase the rich culture heritage of the people , described the Traditional Rulers as key stakeholders in the initiative.

 While commending the traditional rulers for their role in ensuring smooth conduct of the just-concluded general elections, the Governor noted that the state had in the past one year witnessed peace and tranquility, attributing the achievement to the invaluable contributions of the royal fathers.

 He described the traditional institution as a highly-revered one and urged the traditional heads to always conduct themselves in a manner that depicts integrity and dignity, assuring them that his administration is committed to their welfare.

 The Governor further charged them to work in unity and accord with the Presidents -General in achieving peace and coordination in the onerous task of grassroot development.

 Earlier, the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, explained that the meeting has become routine to keep the royal fathers abreast of government programmes and activities as well as areas where they can key in.                    
Igwe Achebe said as the custodian of the people's culture and traditions, traditional rulers in the state will give government every necessary support in its renewed efforts to promote the people's culture and called on State Government to adequately carry them along in the effort.

 In their separate remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Nibo, Igwe Michael Ngene and his Nri counterpart, Ezenri Obidiegwu Onyesoh commended the Governor for his visible developmental projects across the state which have impacted the lives of the people positively, and pledged their support to his administration.

 In a vote of thanks, the Traditional Ruler of Oko in Orumba North Council Area, Igwe Laz Ekwueme extolled the Governor's consultative system of administration which has ensured participatory citinzenship and urged him to remain focused in his developmental agenda.
