www.odogwublog.com reports that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase
promoted seven (7) policemen including the Sentry who attended to him  in Anambra state police command for their neatness and efficiency at their duty posts during his working visit to the state weekend at Amawbia Headquarters of the command. He also announced the restoration of Corporal Obot Okon’s rank and attended to the problems raised by the men and officers of the police force.

Just as he called for professionalism amongst members of Nigeria police as anything short of that would be disastrous for the force.

He encouraged his colleagues in the police force to acquire knowledge as it was the prime thing that would determine how far and well they fare in their profession.

He said his administration was out to encourage any policeman that shows interest in furthering his education by posting such to a place where they could be studying as well as practicing.

Arase said his administration was set to redress with them those peculiar challenges they are having in the State as his office has discovered that Anambra police was notorious for mercantile policing.

He promised that his administration was set to establish a new police vision/ mindset,  adding that he was allergic to corruption and was poised to restore the dignity of the police force. He warned his colleagues to eschew the habit of setting up road blocks in the state as it has been abolished by his administration.

On the issue of commercialization of bail, the Inspector General of Police announced he has set up intelligence policing to train them on how to gather information, arrest, and the need to keep away from intervention on land matters as well as adopt alternative peaceful resolution when they embark on arrest.

He revealed that the police cannot grant permit on land transaction as that is the sole concern of lawyers.  He advocated that international best practices must be adopted as it would help them find out criminal action against one upon arrest.

The IG made it clear that members of the force with deviant behaviours shall henceforth be set free accordingly while those of criminality like kidnapping, robbery shall be apprehended and properly tried. He said his desire is for the force to be accountable in their actions.
He added that the habit of misuse of firearms shall be dealt with, especially by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

IGP Solomon Arase called for the withdrawal of all policemen on non-assigned posting and the immediate cessation of the practice of carrying bag for civilians or doing other domestic duties for civilians while on duty.

Speaking on police welfare, the Inspector General promised a good package for the policemen and has already set up modalities for them to get enough through mortgage bank.

He insisted that these welfare policies must be tied to good ethical standards, policies, traffic rules and discipline. Solomon Arase asserted that no policeman is immune to the law.

He promised that he would push the police force forward and not indulge in any act that would bring the force to disrepute.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police CP Hosea. H. Karma introduced the Inspector General of Police as an 'unassuming gentleman officer, an embodiment of professionalism, resourcefulness, discipline, sagacity and intellectualism,' he said.

Karma  informed the IGP of the support of the State governor  Chief Willie Obiano for the police force through the donation of over 100 patrol vehicles, prompt payment of allowances to men on special internal security operation, donation of horses, to mention but a few.

He implored the IG to help him thank the executive governor, Chief Willie Obiano. He shared some of the challenges that the force is facing such as lack of a befitting headquarter in the state.

Meanwhile, As part of activities marking his one-day working visit to the State aimed at strengthening the partnership with the State Government in maintaining a crime-free Anambra State, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr  Solomon Arase Friday paid a courtesy visit on Governor Willie Obiano.
 
          The IGP who was accompanied on the visit by top ranking Officers of the Nigerian Police was received by the Governor at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.

 Speaking after meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Governor Obiano said the Police remained a veritable tool in his administration's sustained onslaught against criminals which has made the state the best in the country in terms of security.
        The Governor noted that through his administration's organised system of crime-fighting, it has been able to prove that with proper motivation and assistance, the Nigerian Police can effectively live up to its responsibility of protecting the live and property of the citizenry.

Congratulating Mr Arase on his confirmation as the new IGP, Governor Obiano said the honour would spur him to greater and laudable achievements in the nation's security sector, assuring him of the continued support and partnership of the State Government.   He reassured Ndi Anambra that having made security its priority, his administration is committed to sustaining efforts at ensuring that the State remained free from the clutches of armed robbers and kidnappers as well as making her habitable for the investors he is attracting to grow her economy.
           Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Arase said the visit was to thank Governor Obiano for his uncommon intervention and reforms in the State Security Sector and to encourage him to do more.

He noted that through his avowed commitment to rid the State of criminals, the Present Administration has exhibited genuine resolve towards improving the lot of Ndi Anambra and entrenching Peace and Stability which are preconditions for meaningful development to ensue.

 The IGP also commended the Community-Police partnership approach adopted by the state government towards policing all nooks and crannies of the state and called on Governors across the Country to adopt the model to intensify the efficiency of Police efforts in their various states.
        The Inspector-General of Police had earlier inspected facilities put in place by the present administration that have aided the huge success it has so far recorded in the area of security which included bay stations, Over 120 Command and Control Patrol Vehicles, Communication gadgets, the Central Security Control room amongst others.
