Health of Buhari ex-coordinator, Ifeanyichukwu Nwokoye attacked by DSS, deteriorates

The health condition of former coordinator of General Muhammadu Buhari presidential campaign
organization in Anambra State, Ifeanyichukwu Nwokoye, who was brutalized last week by the operatives of the Department of Security Service, has deteriorated.
He was moved from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital to an undisclosed hospital for further treatment on Wednesday.
Nwokoye coordinated Buhari’s presidential campaign in 2007 in Anambra State.
It was learnt that some leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state took him out to the new hospital.
His wife, Jessica, who received the APC chieftains, was seen weeping uncontrollably.
Nwokoye had been unconscious since the fracas with the DSS that almost claimed one of his eyes, while senators, lawyers, political leaders in APC, Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, had besieged his country home.
The quarrel with the DSS, it was learnt, arose over Nwokoye’s refusal to disclose the identities of a team of expatriate medical doctors, who were invited by Governor Willie Obiano to treat the indigent persons in the state.
But the state Director of DSS, Mr. Alex Okeiyi, while reacting to the incident on that day, told our correspondent that Nwokoye held his men hostage in his hotel, describing it as kidnapping.
He threatened to press charges against the businessman, adding that his men went to the place on a legal duty, noting that it was the norm all over the place.
However, when the APC leaders got to Ide-Amawbia’s house, the wife Jessica, commended them for their action, adding that what they did showed that her husband had people behind him including his party.
According to Chukwudi Araonu, who is the Treasurer, “The man beaten up is our boss and a major financier of the APC in this state and we are here to tell the world that security operatives were unfair to him, such a thing has never happened before.
“We have already sent message across to our leaders and our great party and we believe that very soon, the world will react to the maltreatment of our leader.”
“The impunity of security operatives in the country has given everybody a source of worry and we are calling those at the helm of security to caution their men. We believe that the change everybody was talking about has come.”
