Enugu groans under petrol scarcity, hike in price

Acute petrol scarcity has hit Enugu, the Coal City as most major marketers do not dispense PMS in
their filling stations whereas the Independent Marketers, who have fuel available, sell at exorbitant price.
As at Saturday morning, the pump price of petrol in most of the filling stations owned by the members of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN sold between N120.00 to N140.00.
Though there are no queues, most motorists are buying the product in anguish as they have no alternative than to patronise the IPMAN fillings stations since most filling stations owned by the major marketers have run dry.
Sequel to the new development, commuters now pay higher fares to get to their destinations.
“What do you expect us to do? We have to increase transport fare so that we will be able to meet up,” a bus driver told Nigerian Pilot.
“I’ll park my car until the price changes. How much do they pay me when the pump price of petrol is officially put at N87.00 that I will now be driving to work at N140 per litre and one is not even sure the fuel will last till the next day,” a civil servant laments.
As at the time of filing this report, it was not possible to get the IPMAN chairman for Enugu State Chapter, Chief Ikechukwu Nwankwo to comment on the development as he neither answered calls nor replied text message.”
