Corps members storm Benue , as NYSC regrets mix-up in Benue orientation camping

There was crisis situation in Benue state as two different batches of prospective NYSC
stormed Benue state for their orientation camp.

The Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed regrets over the mix-up in the reporting dates for the 2015 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course of Corps members deployed to Benue state. The corps members were apologized to and given transport money back home. Director General had to come down to Benue as the corps members have already over powered the Army ready for a show down.

The NYSC Management gave corps members from Anambra and Enugu N6,000 each, Abuja N5, 000, Lagos N15,000 etc for all those who could not be registered. The camp is meant for 2,500 but over 7, 000 people came before Tuesday camp opened.

A statement Thursday by the NYSC, explains that the Orientation course in Benue camp, like in some other states, has been planned to take place in two Streams with the Stream I scheduled to take place from 5th to 25th May, 2015 and Stream II to hold from 2nd to 22nd June, 2015.
The mix up happened in 7 states of the country where stream A and B came to orientation camps at the same time.

However, the Corps members assigned for the Stream II exercise in Benue reported at the Camp between 5th and 6th May, 2015 as against their scheduled date of 2nd June due to error on their call-up letters.
“Consequently, all the affected prospective Corps members originally scheduled to participate in the Stream II of the on-going Orientation course in Benue State have been paid their transport fare to and fro the orientation camp in line with their entitlements in the present circumstance. This is to enable them travel back home and return to camp on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2015.
“Management took this decision so as to ensure that our Corps members enjoy basic comfort in the Orientation camp and to avoid overstretch of camp facilities.
“All the affected Corps members deployed to Benue State are hereby assured that the above arrangement will not alter their passing-out date as they will, as usual, pass out with their counterparts of stream I at the end of their service year.”
NYSC management also regretted inconveniences this development has caused its corps member.
