Breaking News: El-Rufai’s inauguration ended abruptly as El-Rufai condemns attack on inauguration guests
Governor mounted the podium to be sworn in as Governor of Kaduna, but the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that El-Rufai could not review the parade mounted by the police as some youth’s pelted dignitaries with water sachets, stones and other objects in the pavilion.
This prompted security agents to fire tear gas into the crowd at the Murtala Square, Kaduna.
NAN also reports that some dignitaries in the pavilion included the Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris, and other traditional rulers in the State.
The incident occurred when the new governor had concluded his address and was about to mount an open van to review the parade mounted by the police.
While the crowds were dispersed by the police, dignitaries remained seated, but the occasion ended abruptly without the governor reviewing the parade.
NAN reports that the Murtala Square was filled to capacity.
This is coming as Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned the attack on guests at his inauguration as the 22nd Governor of the state on Friday in Kaduna.
The former minister of the FCT condemned the unruly behaviour, exhibited by some youths against the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, during the inauguration.
The governor, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said he looked forward to the peoples support as the new government settled down to work,
El-Rufai noted that a component of change, the maxim of the All Progressives Congress Congress, which won the governorship election in the state in April, was respect for institutions and commitment to lawful and peaceful means to express grievance, discontent or dissent.
“Even in such instances, there can be no justification for any attempt to inflict embarrassment or cause disorder,” el-Rufai said.
The governor, however, commended the people of the state for the massive turnout at the event.
He pledged to do his best to deliver good governance to the good people of the state despite the prevailing economic situation.
