The Allied Business Community at Nsukka has called on the governorship
candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the April 11 election, Barr.
Okey Ezea, to accept the outcome of the exercise in good faith.
They pleaded with politicians in the state to take a cue from President
Goodluck Jonathan who lost as an incumbent President but did not hesitate to
concede defeat.
The group, which made its position known at a press briefing in Enugu,
yesterday, was speaking in apparent reference to Ezea’s insistence to challenge
the result at the election tribunal.
It would be recalled that Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, was declared winner of the governorship election by the Independent
National Electoral Commission, INEC.
However, the president of the Allied Business Community, Mr. Augustine
Okagu, who addressed journalists alongside the organisation’s secretary and one
of its patrons, Ojobo Godwin and Theophilus Nzuteigbo, respectively, urged Ezea
to bury the hatchet and partner with Ugwuanyi to move the state forward.
Okagu said: “Now that the election is over and a winner has
emerged, we congratulate Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the PDP and equally ask our
brother, Okey Ezea, to accept the outcome in the interest of our state.
“We have no doubt in Ugwuanyi’s ability to justify the mandate that has
been given to him by the people of Enugu State.”
