Tragedy : 45 Perish on Ihiala Road as Community lament Tipper menace

www.odogwublog.com reader from Ihiala reports that no fewer than forty five persons
have died so far along Umuezeawala_ Uli_ Egbema_ road in Ihiala Local  government Area of Anambra State.

The road which was reconstructed four years ago passes through Ihiala to Egbema town in Imo State and terminates in River State.

But today the road has witnessed various forms of decapitation at the Umuezeawala parts of the road due to the activities of Tipper Drivers who excavate sand at the Atamiri river in the area.

Speaking to reporters the Chairman of Umuezeala community Dr. Donatus Iberi  lamented that the tipper drivers totalling over eighty make use of the road on daily bases, adding that their reckless driving has led to the death of over forty five persons through road accident.

"It is unfortunate that our  people have suffered untold hardship due to the activities of these Tipper Drivers. Most of the people that have died are aged people and school children.

"We are calling on the State and federal government to come to our aid and save lives of our people" he added.

Also speaking the Traditional Head of the Community Chief James  Chukwudolue noted that several representations have so far been made to government on the sorry state of the road, adding that the local government authority should take drastic actions in checkmating the reckless activities of the truck and tipper drivers.
