Tension in Onitsha as Police Detain Anambra Paramilitary organization Commandant over Lack of Accountability

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Anambra State Police Command has arrested the state commandant of paramilitary organization, Gallant Community Protection and
Safety Foundation, GCPSF, Mr. Alpha Justice for allegedly not rendering financial account of his leadership since assumption of office.

Trouble reportedly started for the state commandant when a delegation of the GCPSF led by the vice chairman, Mr. Vincent Emeka Ujuh from Lagos, stormed the Anambra State Office to demand for the account.

On arrival, the state commandant was not comfortable with the delegation and hurriedly made a phone call and within two minutes, two men who claimed to be soldiers stormed the office and whisked the state commandant away abandoning the delegation.

According to the leader of the delegation, “the soldiers later ordered us through a  telephone call to come to the Onitsha Army Barracks and as we were heading to the place they said, stop coming to Army barracks, come to state CID, Awka”.

“On heading to state CID, they called again and said come to Nkpor Fly-Over, it was then that I felt they must be up to something else and I asked the financial secretary, Mr. Okwuchukwu Obi to get to the fly-over with documents to show them that we are genuine GCPSF”, he stated further.

On coming back, the financial secretary returned with the state commandant without the two that claimed to be soldiers”.

The case was then lodged at Inland Town Police Station where the state commandant has been detained and from there we transferred the case to Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, at Central Police Station”, he revealed.

Asked on whether he rendered any account, Mr. Ujuh said, “he gave us a false account which is not acceptable to us because he should differentiate the accounts, he doesn’t have to compile them”.

“We want a comprehensive account of the state from the commandant but unfortunately he has not been able to give us the account”.

The accounts should be grouped into three, State, Sponsorship and National.

“We have told the police that he must produce the two men who claimed to be soldiers because we suspected them to be kidnappers”, he disclosed.

In his defence, the state commandant was said to have claimed that the money realized for the state was used to offset debts incurred in the state and that he even put his own money in offsetting the debts adding that he is being owed by the state GCPSF.

Contacted the Inland Town Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Cosmas Eze confirmed the arrest adding that the matter has been transferred to SARS, CPS for further investigation.
