Rojenny stadium lays N100 Million tartar track , set to produce world champions in athletes in three-year time , says Proprietor

state, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has embarked on renovation of the facilities at the games village to make it a breeding ground once more for Nigerian athletes.

This is coming as he has taken delivery of a five container-load of rolls of tartar tracks and drums of adhesives meant for the tartar track lanes of the stadium and other items for installation worth several millions of naira.

Ezeonwuka said that the items and its installation, which includes track stone-base work and arc mapping/pinning, had been contracted to a sporting facility and engineering firm at the cost of N100 million.

He assured that the stadium within three years will produce ``top ranking athletes in the World’’.

The proprietor noted that the facility, when installed in the next two weeks, would be a breeding ground to harness abundant athlete talents in Anambra, Imo, Abia, Delta, and Edo States due to the strategic location of the stadium.

Ezeonwuka, who is also the Board of Trustee member of APGA, maintained that it would be used to channel the wasted energies of most youths, who engage in vices and smoking of hard drugs for the overall benefit of the youths, community, society and the country at large.

``It is good that the tartar track had arrived, and you can eye-mark it and the installation will commence any time from now.

``Once the installation is completed; I give Nigeria three or four years; Olympic champions will be produced from this Olympic stadium.

``This stadium would definite produce athlete champions that would take over the dominance of athlete meets from Jamaica and US.

``We are going to re-channel the orientation and pastimes of our youths to athletes; which will help to reduce to the barest minimal the issue of vices and hard drug use among them,’’ he said.

Ezeonwuka, who holds the title of Ogirisi of the entire Igboland, said that within the South-East and South-South there was abundant athlete raw talents that could be harnessed since people from this part of the country have the natural stamina to stand the rigor of athletic trainings.

According to him, Michael Jackson was a street dancer, who was converted to an international dancer; likewise Mike Tyson was a street fighter, who was converted to a World boxing champion.

``Likewise, this Olympic stadium would be the starting point of many budding and yet to explode World acclaimed athletes in Nigeria,’’ he said.

It would be recalled that then Governor Peter Obi and recently Governor Willie Obiano have invested and supported the sports project and it  would be recalled that the stadium management had waited for the tartar track items from China for over four months.

The items, which cost about N100 million, was being shipped from China on five containers after been awaited for four months.
