PPA rejects National Assembly results in Anambra state

Leader of Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) in Anambra State, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo,   has called for option A4 in future elections in the country

Ezeemo made the call while speaking with newsmen in his country home, Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area of the state yesterday.
He said the use of option A4 would checkmate lots of electoral malpractices and make the true voice of the people heard.
Ezeemo said the party rejected the result as announced by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding Aguata Federal House of Representatives.
He said the party disassociated itself from the election and called for total cancellation of the election in the area and threatened to challenge it in the law court .
Ezeemo urged INEC not to uphold the result, which he said was full of irregularities and contradictions. He described the result as image tarnishing.
“ I must appreciate a  reasonable degree of improvement made by the commission in other aspects of the electoral process but condemn in strong terms the announcement of Aguata result by INEC in the  just concluded elections.
“ INEC cannot be speaking from two sides of its mouth; they want to give a resounding and transparent electioneering process to the country and still display show of shame.
“INEC should stand by it words by operating best practices and proving to  the world that we have best brains to handle our affairs,” he said.
Ezeemo said that in spite of the delay in assumption of duty by the ad hoc workers, that the card reader was not functioning well and the workers refused to switch over to manual accreditation immediately, yet they stopped accreditation without attending to all  voters, saying that  time was against them.
“The presiding officer refused to grant extra time to allow for the accreditation of voters since voting would commence about 1p.m. so with that  action lots of voters were stopped from voting; it was painful.”
He alleged that the result was doctored as the results released in most polling units in Amesie, Uga, Ekwuluobia, Achala among others  did not tally with the electoral  records of the area.
Ezeemo said INEC was yet to curb money sharing in polling units on election day as that was the stock in trade of some political parties during March 28 elections.
He said stiffer penalty should be applied against political parties sharing money to the voters on election day as such would checkmate the practices.
Also, Mrs. Angela Okoye, PPA candidate for Aguata Federal Constituency, said the actions of the INEC workers indicated that the commission was favouring a particular party.
Okoye alleged that voters in her strong holds were not accredited by INEC officials as time was against them, whereas accreditation started at 2p.m. and voting ended about 6p.m. She advised INEC to correct its mistakes  and give credible elections on April 11.
