Obiano Commissions Drug Quality Control Lab in Anambra

yesterday commissioned the State Drug Quality Control Laboratory and Drug Information centre with the aim of checkmating the infiltration of fake and counterfeit drugs into the State’s health facilities.
The governor while commissioning the projects at the State Central Medical Store, Amaku-Awka, explained that the centre which is the first of its kind in the entire South East Nigeria will ensure that all drugs and medical sundries supplied to the State’s health care facilities are safe, effective and quality good ones through on the spot qualitative analysis of all the drugs.

He also added that the facilities which will be of immense benefit to all Anambrarians will ensure early detection and prevention of fake and counterfeit drugs, so they do not get to the public healthcare facilities any more.

He  also noted that timely completion of the projects is in line with his administration’s resolve to provide quality healthcare services to the people  and medical policies on infrastructure, comfort of the patients, training and welfare of the doctors and nurses in the state.
Gov. Obiano also noted that his administration recently purchased 6 speed water ambulances and 17 flying boats to help improve the healthcare of citizens in riverine areas.
Earlier in his address, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike thanked the governor for facilitating the completion the two projects through his moral and financial support to the ministry, which according to him, aimed at safe-guiding the health of good people of Anambra state.
Dr. Akabuike noted that the facility will no doubt reduce mortality and morbidity occasioned by the use of fake and counterfeit drugs, stressing that the gesture will fast track the attainment of the health related goals of the Millennium Development Goals, MDG.
“It has been the dream of the State Ministry of Health to put in place, systems that would prevent fake and counterfeit drugs and medical sundries and also serve as drug information resource centre for health care professionals and other stakeholders” he said.
