NBA Chairman in Asaba murdered

Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ughelli chapter in Delta state has been assassinated.

NAN reports that the chairman, Mr. Austin Icheghe was assassinated in front of his house on Thursday, April 16, by yet to be identified assailants. The deceased niece, who gave her name as Egunor Uviesa, said some gunmen shot the lawyer at about 9.00pm as he was alighting from his car in front of his compound.


“As soon as he came down from his vehicle, they accosted him and shot him on the head. He was immediately rushed to a private clinic in Ughelli where he was confirmed dead,” she said.
It was reported that the victim was still in his pool of blood at the spot where he was killed.
It was gathered that sympathisers have been trooping in to console his family members.

When the state police command spokesman, Celestina Kalu was contacted on the incident, Kalu confirmed the tragedy via text message saying: “Yes sir, he was murdered by unknown gunmen last night.”

Just less than 24 hours to the governorship election, the Youth leader for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Ugonna Omereonye was also assassinated.
