After
months of calling the bluff of Nigerians, former Super Eagles manager, Stephen
Keshi, has
pleaded with Nigerians to forgive him for failing to qualify the
nation for the AFCON 2015 Nations Cup which was hosted by Equatorial Guinea.
Keshi’s
apology was coming just as he moved to get a new contract as Eagles manager
after failing to secure a job outside the nation’s shores.
The
“Big Boss” who spoke yesterday through his manager, Emmanuel Ado, stated that
Keshi regreted not leading the Eagles to Equitorial Guinea where Nigeria would
have defended the Nations Cup trophy won in South Africa 2013.
In
the words of Keshi’s manager: “I want to on behalf of Keshi apologize to
all Nigerians and most especially the fans for the failure of the Super
Eagles to qualify for the 2015 edition. “There were problems that contributed
to the failure of the team to qualify for Equatorial Guinea ,which by the Grace
of God has been largely resolved. We ask for forgiveness and support for
the team to ensure that they get back to their winning ways.”
Keshi’s
manager further dismissed as untrue, media reports that quoted him (Keshi) as
calling NFF President Pinnick Amaju a liar, even as he added that Keshi had a
good relationship with the NFF boss.
“The
story in certain newspapers (not Daily Sunsports)that Keshi called the
president of the federation a liar is unfortunate. Keshi is ever decorous and
will never use such word for the president of the federation. “He is too
cultured to use such a word. Those who profit from sensationalism as a way of
life, create chaos by twisting facts out of context only to suit their
own purpose”, Ado stated.
