reports that wife of Anambra State Governor, Chief Mrs. Ebele Obiano, has so
far spent over N160 million on hospital bills and
assistance to the less
privileged since her husband became the governor of Anambra State last year.
This Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike, disclosed
this on Wednesday at the Women Development Centre, Awka, where Mrs. Obiano
distributed 200 prosthetic limbs.
Akabuike said that helping people in need is a family
tradition of the Obianos and he was not surprised that the governor's wife
carried that tradition to Government House, Awka.
He said that last week alone, she offered to pay N10 million
for the treatment of a boy who needed medical assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Obiano preached wealth
distribution, urging those who have, even though they may not be millionaires,
to assist those who don't have or those who have less, adding that Anambra
State is blessed with wealthy people but selfishness created a barrier for them
to share their wealth.
She described the day as her best because it is a day she
put smiles on the faces of people.
Mrs. Obiano said people should spread their wealth so that
they would be remembered even after they had left the world, stressing that it
is part of seeking heaven.
On her part, Mrs. Obiano said it is God's wish that she
should spread her family wealth. According to her, her family has empowered
people and she is happy for it.
She said that 200 lucky beneficiaries are benefiting in this
second phase of empowered mobility aid in the use of their arms and legs.
According to her, "The immediate outcome of the gesture
is that most of them are ultimately going to leverage on the improved mobility
aid to work better to earn a living.
"With improved mobility, their living condition will
improve and hopefully there will be better income from employment, business or
other engagements."
The first phased of the programme took place last December
16, 2014.
