How Ngige stormed Anambra after losing elections

It was like the reception of a popular king who went on exile. The crowd at Amansea,
the border town between Anambra and Enugu states could only be compared to what one could find in the rally of a popular presidential candidate. That was Friday April 3, when Senator Chris Ngige made a triumphant entry into Anambra after the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections in which he re-contested in order to continue to represent Anambra Central Senatorial zone in the Senate but lost.
Although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared another candidate winner of the election, Senator Ngige who has vowed to recover what he described as the mandate given to him by the people felt so delighted that at last, God has fulfilled his dream and confirmed to the people of South-East in particular that he indeed saw tomorrow when he decided to continue his political carrier in APC, despite all invitations to leave the party and be offered a juicy position in the PDP-led government.
At Amansea junction, virtually all APC members in Anambra State, Senator Ngige’s supporters and admirers, various dance groups and even some political turncoats from PDP gathered in their numbers to receive the Senator who had left Anambra State soon after that March 28 election.
When he eventually arrived, there was shouting of Onwa, Onwa, everywhere, a title by which he is known.
The highly elated Senator Ngige alighted from his car and joined the group in dancing to the melodious music.
As he danced along the road in joy, traffic came to a standstill for quite a long time as the shouts of Onwa, Onwa continued to rent the air.
As the crowd was receiving him at Amansea boundary, another set of crowd was waiting at Finotel Hotel, Awka where the real reception was to take place.
From Amansea, Senator Ngige was led in a motorcade round Awka, the Anambra State capital and as he passed by people closed their shops to catch a glimpse of the man.
At Finotel, it was a funfare for Senator Ngige, as he took out time to tell the people what the APC government which would be in place form May 29 would offer Nigerians and advised those who had been on the sideline to join the moving train.
He expressed regret that a lot of the Igbo whom he called to join the party earlier did not heed his call.
He, however, advised that new entrants should be properly screened so that bad elements that would cause problem for APC were not allowed to join the party.
A the reception Senator Ngige was generally acknowledged as the man who really saw tomorrow.
Ngige told his audience that he has tasted all the big positions except the President. He was at one time governor of Anambra State. He is presently the Senator representing the Anambra Central Senatorial zone.
