A
78-year- old man from Bauchi State has narrated how his son, 28, was
killed by a soldier, while he
was defending his vote for the President-elect,
Gen Muhamadu Buhari (retd), last Sunday.
Meanwhile,
a trigger-happy policeman attached to Adamawa State Police Command opened fire
on jubilating group of youths, killing a 10-year-old primary school pupil and
injuring two others.
Alhaji
Yahaya Wunti, a bicycle repairer, said his son, Mohammed Bello, left their
house at Wunti that morning, with his permission to go and cast his vote only
to be cut down by the soldier.
He
said: “Mohammed always asked for my permission before leaving my house.
“He
came to me at around 11am and informed me that he wanted to go to vote and I
asked him if he not carrying anything incriminating on him, and he said no.
“Not
up to 10 minutes later, they brought my son’s dead body, saying he was shot by
a soldier.”
The
bereaved father, who had been receiving sympathizers in his house, said he was
yet to understand what pushed the soldier to shoot his son in the head.
He
said: “He was a good boy who did not like making trouble. He was a hardworking
mason, but was very passionate about Buhari.
“I
know my son would not break the law because of his love for Buhari, so I wonder
why the soldier chose to waste a promising person like Mohammed.”
The
Senator-elect representing Bauchi South senatorial district, Mallam Ali Wakili
of All Progressives Congress, APC, who paid a condolence visit to the
deceased’s father, expressed sadness over the loss.
Wakili
said he reported the incident to the Army and the trigger-happy soldier had
been arrested.
