How Buhari’s victory celebration turned Bloody , with 100 people dead



In a curious twist of fate, the prediction by General Muhammadu Buhari that blood
will flow after 2015 election, came to pass, as over 100 of his supporters died while celebrating his victory in some northern states.
Reports gathered across the country, especially from the North, indicate that Buhari’s supporters went into wild orgy of celebration after the reported telephone call from President Goodluck Jonathan congratulating the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate.
The supporters had trooped to the streets and even blocked major roads, while hundreds of others drove cars, buses, trucks and motorcycles in dangerous acrobatic displays, resulting in multiple accidents, deaths and injuries.
In Kaduna State over 20 deaths were recorded during the wild celebration. In Dogarawa, a suburb of Zaria, and Sabon Gari Local Government Area, four girls were killed following reckless driving by a driver whose bus lost control and rammed into spectators who were prodding the driver and motorcycle riders at Karauka area of Zaria City.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Shehu Mohammed, said many sustained various degrees of injury and were receiving treatment at Sidi Dalibi Memorial Hospital in Zaria City.
Similarly, about five women were said to have been killed at Unguwar Juma in Zaria City when a vehicle rammed into a house in the ecstatic jubilation while nine people were also killed at Dogarawa.
In the same vein, a witness said three others were killed during the celebration at Tudun Wada in Zaria Local Government Area.
In Kano State, a vehicle on high speed crushed nine people to death along Kofar Dawanau in Dala Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s emergency worker at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, said the victims comprised five children and four adults, adding that they were all confirmed dead at the hospital.
“Five persons were confirmed dead when we were brought to the hospital, their lifeless bodies have been taken by their parents,” he said.
A 10-year-old boy who was brought to the emergency unit from Bebeji local government area of the state was seen with injuries on his head and legs.
One of the hospital workers revealed that only two corpses were deposited at the morgue, adding that one of the deceased was a boy who was hit by a speeding vehicle while the other was killed by political thugs.
At Naibawa quarters in Kano metropolis, three persons lost their lives in an accident during the celebrations, while two young men were crushed to death by a motorist at Gwarzo town in Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state. Also, six people also died at Hotoro quarters during a head-on collision with their vehicles.
Two persons lost their lives at Bachirawa/Kurna axis of Kano City, while a crazy driver crushed two teenagers to death along Zaria Road.
In Jigawa State the special adviser on religious affairs to Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, Alhaji Isah Ahmed Duniya Bahutu, knocked down, killed an ex-soldier, and injured four other youths that were celebrating Buhari’s victory in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.
In Gombe State capital, no fewer than three persons died in wild merriment that greeted the declaration of Buhari as the winner of the March 28 presidential poll. Two people died in a ghastly motor accident at Billiri, headquarters of Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
In Abuja, the nation’s capital, at least six excited motorcycle riders were killed in Nyanyan area a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, when they lost control and crashed while jubilating after Buhari’s victory.
Also in Abuja, four Buhari supporters lost their lives while trying to climb the Lugbe pedestrian bridge by Julius Berger junction with their motorcycles. They fell and died.
The situation was not different in Minna, Niger State, where at least three supporters of the APC died in fatal auto crash while jubilating wildly on the highways, just as many others sustained varying degrees of injuries because of the wild celebrations.
In Makurdi, Benue State some youths died in Wadata and North Bank area when they engaged in dangerous acrobatic displays with their motorbikes around the town.
One of the unidentified youths met his death at North Bank, when he fell off his motorbike in one of his displays and gave up the ghost before he could get medical attention.
Following the delude of reports of the death of his supporters during celebration of his victory, Buhari sent out condolence messages to the families of the bereaved and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
