Gunmen abduct Bayelsa Council boss, orderly flees

Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, have abducted the Chairman of Ogbia Local Government in Bayelsa State, Mr. Enaye Abah.

Ogbia is the local government of President Goodluck Jonathan.
It was learnt that the suspected kidnappers, numbering about four and armed with sophisticated weapons, reportedly blocked the official Prado Jeep (vehicle) of the Council Chairman and dragged him out of his vehicle.
It was also learnt that the incident took place along the Otuasega-Okaki road area of the council on Tuesday.
The council boss was said to have been taken to Okarki in neighbouring Rivers State where he was whisked away in a waiting speedboat.
An eyewitness said the Police orderly attached to the Chairman, reportedly came down from the vehicle to investigate the reason for the blockage mounted by the kidnappers.
“But the orderly on sighting heavy arms and hearing a volley of gunshots released towards the vehicle, abandoned his principal,” the eyewitness said.
Relatives of the Chairman claimed the abducted Abah was on his way to an undisclosed meeting when the incident occurred.
Also, a source, who craved anonymity, said the armed men dragged Abah from his vehicle and transferred him into a blue colour Mazda car.
He said, ” They drove him away towards waterside. At the waterside, he was taken into a speed boat stationed there.
“The driver of the Mazda was shot in the leg for refusing to follow the gunmen and their victim into the waiting speed boat.
“The Mazda was later set ablaze by the armed men along the waterside and the number plates taken away.”
Confirming the Development, Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, said preliminary report showed that the abducted Chairman was ferried by his abductors towards the Abua waterwayas in Rivers State.
“Our men have been placed on the alert and we have put measures in place to rescue him,” Butswat said.
