Governor Obiano commissions projects worth N1 Billion in Military cantonment assures Anambra to continue to partner Nigerian Army to improve security

Anambra state government was commissioned in the Onitsha Military Cantonment yesterday by the Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state.

Governor Obiano who performed the ceremony assured continuous partnership by the state government with the Nigerian Army to maintain the existing zero-c
rime rate in the state.

The projects commissioned included a 600, 000 litres water project and an officers mess guest house as well as four three-storey blocks of 48 rooms each renovated by Anambra  government.

Anambra government released millions of naira to the army to refurbish its vehicles, tar all the roads in the cantonment and the gesture started from the then administration of Governor Peter Obi.

Obiano noted that the army had been instrumental to the success of the government in giving ``red card’’ to all criminals, who previously assuming that they are untouchable and unmovable in Anambra.

``We will continue to support all military and para-military agencies in the state since they have aided our security task-force to succeed in rooting out all criminals.

``The partnership between the government and the army would continue to get better since we are committed in making sure officers and men that aid us in providing security are well catered for, they as well as their families,’’ he said.

The governor said that the government was happy with pace and quality of work done in the on-going construction and re-construction of roads in Onitsha been handled by the army.

``I can testify that the army does the best quality job, delivers timely with lesser amount of money compared with other construction companies,’’ he said.

Obiano said that he would direct the commissioner of health to liaison with the cantonment commander to know the type of staff it needed for the cantonment hospital ``since the hospital is also used as HIV/AIDS designated centre for people living in Onitsha and its environs’’.

Earlier, the Commander of Onitsha Military Cantonment, Col. Mohammed Bello, thanked the state government for the projects as well as the extensive network of roads it tarred in the cantonment earlier.

``On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), I want to thank Anambra government for its numerous contributions to the development of the cantonment as well as to the welfare and wellbeing of officers and men of the cantonment.

``Sir, the state government contributions have helped to enhance civil-military relationship in the state and today most of the residents of Onitsha understand us better,’’ he said. 

In a goodwill message, the Commanding Officer of 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha, Lt. Col. Sheriff Aremu, assured the governor that the extension work  in the cantonment hospital would be completed as scheduled.
