Drama in Onitsha as family returns decaying corpse to Hospital ----Doctors , patients , nurses on the run

yesterday when a family of a prgenant mother of three was brought to her decomposing dead body back the doctor in whose hospital she died. She died during delivery in agony , sources said.

 www.odogwublog.com gathered that the could not pay the high prize of the morgue at Onitsha General Hospital, Anambra State.

Confirming the incident, the Inland Town Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr Cosmas Eze said the police are yet to see the doctor since the incident.

He said , “as far as I am concern the doctor is on the run, we are looking for him”.

Sources said the family could not afford the N70,000 bill they were given , and that made the officials of the Morgue at the General Hospital to reject the corpse.

The relatives of the deceased had appealed to the doctor at the private hospital to attend to their daughter while they look for money to pay him off but the woman probably died while delivering.

But since the woman died , they left and came back two days’ later saying that they were not able to get the money and pleaded to be allowed to deposit the corpse at Onitsha General Hospital which the doctor granted their plea.

They were yet unable to return until another two days which resulted in the corpse decomposing.

And when they were ready, the morgue attendants were said to have demanded for N70,000 as the corpse has decomposed. They had no such money and they consequently returned the corpse to the said private hospital.

It was alleged that they returned the corpse in the night when the hospital had shut its door and they had to break the door and deposited the corpse there, while the nurses and doctors on night duty fled.  

It was neighbours that reported the matter to Inland police station due to the offensive odour oozing from the decomposing corpse.

The doctor although could not be reached but however, reported the matter to the State Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, SIIB, Awka, for necessary action.
