Chukwumereije is a man of his words, says – Anambra monarchs

yesterday said that Senator  Uche Chukwumereije was a man of his words while alive. The monarchs said that he devoted the best part of his adult years in the service of the nation and propagation of truth.


The traditional rulers revealed that Sen. Uche Chukwumereije contributed to the socio-political development of the nation’s polity for six decades.

The Chairman of the council, Igwe Chukwuemeka Ilouno, who spoke to newsmen in Onitsha on Monday that Chukwumereije was one of the few Nigerians; anyone can count on his words.

He noted that Chukwumereije was a fine gentleman, a devote Christian and a lover of people and societal progress.

``Nigeria has lost one of her most illustrious sons.

``Sen. Uche Chukwumereije has not only been around for the past six decades but has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the country.

``A principled man, whose no is no and yes is yes.

``A man that will always stand by what he believes in and never get involved in any shady deal both in his public and private life.

``As a Federal Minister of information under the General Babangida regime he did his best to ensure that government programmes were widely disseminated,’’ he said.

On his enormous contribution to the course of the South-East and South-South; Ilouno said that ``a great iroko has fallen’’.

``His immeasurable role during the Nigeria/Biafra war cannot be forgotten in a hurry.

``He is somebody who worked tirelessly for the Igbo nation, especially under the umbrella of Ohaneze Nd'Igbo.

``As a senator he did not only perform creditably well but ensured that the Igbo Agenda was never swept under the carpet at any given time,’’ he said.

Ilouno, however, prayed that his gentle soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Lord, who is the author of truth.
