Senator Julius Ucha in trouble in Ebonyi race as Why Governor Elechi, Umahi Abuja meeting with President ends in deadlock exposed
If feelers from
the Presidential villa, Abuja are anything to go by, the seeming peace of the
grave yard in Ebonyi state may have assumed another dangerous dimension
as
President Goodluck Jonathan allegedly failed to broker peace between the
embattled Governor Martin Elechi and his deputy, Chief Dave Umahi.
The last night
meeting between President Jonathan and Governor Martin Elechi was said to have
ended in deadlock as Governor Elechi insisted that all the candidates for
the National Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party, LP shall be returned
before peace will reign in the state.
He was also
quoted as insisting that his administration has spent huge sums of money in
midwifing the project and demanded that before he could let go of the project,
the candidate of PDP, Chief Dave Umahi must promise to pay him all the money he
spent in constituting LP part machinery.
However, his
instance and some other stringent conditions could not go down well with the
National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mua’azu who allegedly threatened to
suspend him from the party for alleged anti party activities.
A source at the
meeting further revealed that the meeting was almost coming to a success when
Governor Elechi allegedly stormed out of the meeting to answer a phone call
suspected to have come from Abakaliki and after the call, he changed his
statement and insisted that Labour Party is not his party and therefore has no
powers to collapse the party into PDP.
He allegedly
insisted that though the state apparatus including all the state machinery have
been re-deployed into LP, he as a person has always shown commitment to PDP and
has never dumped the party officially for LP and told Mr. President that the
issue of LP being collapsed into PDP surpasses his powers as it is a pure
constitutional matters.
The matter was
however allegedly referred to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state to carry
out survey and study possible way both PDP and LP can form an accord to be able
to stop the hurricane APC governorship candidate, Senator Julius Ucha whom Mr.
President allegedly kept mentioning through out the meeting.
It was gathered
that second stage of the meeting was a sort of “operation stop Ucha” which
arose when Chief Dave Umahi allegedly expressed concern that with the way
things are going and LP playing spoilers’ game, they my not stop Ucha and urged
Mr. President to prevail on Elechi to join forces with PDP and LP to be able to
stop the APC man.
Meanwhile, the proposed
visit by President Jonathan to Ebonyi state may have suffered a set back
following the recent development in the state as security reports available to
Aso Rock about the condition of the state are not favourable and may lead to
clash between PDP and LP supporters.
The proposed
visit may have been shifted to a later date to enable Mr. President consolidate
on the peace building between Elechi and Umahi, the PDP and LP as anything
short of that could spell doom in the state and further scuttle Mr. President’s
chances of winning election in the state.
However, both
Governor Elechi and Dave Umahi are being expected in the state this afternoon
when the duo are to meet with their supporters to address them on the outcome
of their trip to Abuja. Ends
But as at the
time of this report, Chief Elechi has not completely accepted the conditions
given him by NWC of PDP as he insisted that LP is a political party of its own
and cannot dabble into their affairs. Ends
