www.odogwublog.com reports that the former president of the apex Igbo Socio-Cultural Organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife has faulted President Goodluck Jonathan’s
government on grounds of marginalization of the South East in the scheme of things.
Speaking at Nnewi, Ikedife who was a member of
the constitutional conference said the administration has not really done well
to deserve re-election by not only the people of the South East but Nigerians
in general.
“Information shows that of the six
geo-political zones, the south east has the least federal presence in terms of
infrastructure and other social amenities”.
He said the Jonathan government has
for the past six years not thought it expedient to give serious attention to
the federal roads in the South east which are now impassable.
“The worst aspect is that this
government has failed to revive the major industries in the South east some of
which include the Enugu coal corporation, ANAMCO, PRODA, Nkalagu Cement
industry and Emenite among others. There is no major industry that is capital
intensive cited in the south east”.
“The 2nd Niger Bridge has been over
sung. None of the bridges elsewhere in this country is a toll bridge expect
this one. It is not fair. We will be paying toll for 25 years after completion.
Does this show Jonathan has done well”.
Ikedife further cited the case of
former boss of the federal road safety corps, Mr. Osita Chidoka who was removed
from office without a replacement from the south east as marginalization of
Ndigbo.
He said the issue of one or more
additional states in the south east could be resolved by Jonathan by executive
fiat to brig the zone at par with other geo-political zones.
On attack on the presidential
candidate of the All Progressive Congress, General Mohammadu Buhari, Ikeidfe
reasoned that what was of utmost importance for anybody seeking elective
position should have certificates of mental and physical health.
“Let us pursue the substance, what
is important is what we call cognate experience”, he said.
