Barely
48 hours to the presidential election, the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA,
has adopted the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
President Goodluck Jonathan as candidate
of the party for the Saturday’s poll.
The
party’s National Chairman, Mr Peter Ameh, who addressed newsmen on the decision
of the National Working Committee, NWC, at the PPA national Secretariat,
yesterday, in Abuja, said members of the party were determined to work round
the clock to ensure Jonathan returns to office May 29, 2015.
Ameh
also denied that the party was being blackmailed, bribed or pressurised to
adopt Jonathan, saying that the president’s adoption was based on merit. He
explained “We adopted President Jonathan in line with the spirit of progressive
continuity.”
He
said that members of the party were unanimous in their stance to back Jonathan
in the interest of sustaining democratic and national development.
Ameh
explained that “the party’s declaration of support for Jonathan’ re-election on
March 28, was based on merit as the decision was taken after considering the
level of development strides, the Transformation Agenda this administration has
brought to bear on the lives of our people.”
According
to him: “This Transformational reforms cuts across all sectors of our society
from power with the building of Dams in some major part of the country
including Gombe, Taraba States amongst others to meet our agricultural and
energy needs.”
