Governor
of Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha, and All Progressives Congress, APC, have
jointly filed a suit at the Federal High Court, asking it to order the Independent
National Electoral Commission, INEC,
to stop Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Chief
Emeka Ihedioha from further campaigning for the governorship election in the
state until the court determined who the real candidate of the party was.
Also
joined in the current suit against Araraume and Ihedioha are the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, and INEC.
Chief
Okorocha and his party, the APC, are asking the court to restrain Senator
Araraume and Chief Ihedioha from continuing with their campaign for the April
11, 2015, governorship election in the state on the platform of the PDP, until
the court ruled on their matter to determine who among them was actually the
candidate of their party, PDP.
In
the suit No. FHC/OW/CS/68/2015, the plaintiffs are contending that allowing the
two people to campaign for the governorship election would place the APC and
its candidate at disadvantage, since what would be on the ballot papers are the
logos or symbols of the political parties and not the candidates’ names or
photographs.
