The Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ogun
State Police Command on Monday smashed a kidnapping syndicate in the Ijebu area
after security operatives rescued a kidnapped victim, Mrs Abosede Adenuga,
and
arrested a member of the syndicate, Tunde Akilo.
The police spokesman in the state,
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this was made possible by the intensive efforts of the
police to tackle kidnapping in the state.
He said the hoodlums had kidnapped
their victim from Lagos and were heading for their hideout along the
Ibefun-Ikorodu road, when they were ambushed by SARS operatives at Imodi Ijasi
along the Ijebu Ode-Ikorodu road.
He said the policemen were able lay
ambush for the kidnappers, after they had got information that they
(kidnappers) were coming towards that direction.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of
Police, said, “They rescued the victim and arrested one Tunde Akilo, a member
of the kidnapping syndicate.
“They had jumped on an okada
when they sighted the policemen but they were given a hot chase, and this led
to the arrest of one of them, while others escaped.”
The police public relations officer
added that one locally made cut-to-size double-barreled gun, loaded with one
live cartridge, four live cartridges, a Volkswagen car with number plate MUS
471 AU and assorted charms were recovered from the bandits.
“The state Commissioner of Police,
Valentine Ntomchukwu, has commended men of the SARS, who carried out the
operation and members of the public, who gave them the information of the
incident.
