A mob in Bauchi yesterday set
ablaze a woman suspected to be a suicide bomber.
It was learnt that the suspected
bomber wore
a hijab to the market in company with a man in military uniform.
Daily Sun learnt that both refused to surrender themselves to be
checked at the entrance of the market.
An eyewitness, who spoke on
condition of anonymity, said their mission became suspicious.
He said: “Immediately the man saw
that the environment was no more conducive, he ran away and when they removed
the lady’s hijab, the people saw two bottles which contain ed some substances
under her hijab so they immediately set her ablaze to avert bomb blast in the
market.”
Police findings revealed that the
mob carried out the action at about 7am.
Police Public Relations Officer
(PPRO) in the state, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said the-yet-to-be-identified woman
allegedly refused to be screened at the entrance of Muda Lawal Market, Bauchi.
He said she was attacked by the mob
that took laws into their own hands and set her ablaze. The victim, he said,
died before rescue could come.
“Police patrol teams, including the
explosive ordinance disposal unit, rushed to the scene, dispersed the
rampaging crowd and restored normalcy in the area.
“Meanwhile, the case is under
investigation and intensive patrol is ongoing in the area to apprehend the
perpetrators and prevent further breakdown of law and order,” Mohammed said.
He warned members of the public
against taking laws into their own hands, saying anyone arrested over such act
would face the full wrath of the law.
