President Goodluck Jonathan was in
Lagos earlier today while the presidential candidate of the All Progressives
Congress, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.),
will arrive later. Jonathan arrived
in the morning in the nation’s commercial capital while Buhari will arrived by 4pm.
It was learnt that Jonathan is
attending a conference at the Nigerian Stock Exchange to reassure investors
that despite the crash in the stock market, Nigeria would bounce back.
The conference, it was learnt, was
necessitated by a report by the international rating agency, Standard &
Poor’s, that Nigeria’s economy is in danger and also put Nigeria on negative
sovereign ratings watch, BB minus.
Jonathan had earlier in the day
visited the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, to solicit the monarch’s
support for his re-election.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that Buhari
is in Lagos to meet with youths and entertainers at the Intercontinental Hotel,
Victoria Island.
Investigations by our correspondent
showed that Lagos is expected to be a battleground between the Peoples
Democratic Party and the APC due to its status as the state with the highest
number of voters.
