Female INEC adhoc officer dies in a crash

A female ad hoc officer of INEC yesterday met her untimely death in a road mishap on her way to the polling unit she was designated to.

The INEC officer who is yet to be identified was said to have died at about 7.45 am along Obussa-Ebonyi road in Oju when the head of motorcycle she was being transported to the polling unit was abruptly removed from the body leading to her death and that of the rider.
The state police spokesman, Austin Ezeani confirmed the incident and efforts were on to know the identity of the INEC official.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Benue was generally peaceful as prospective voters filed out as early as 7.30 am for accreditation.
Security was tight within Makurdi, the state capital as well as Otukpo, Gboko and other parts of the state with security men mounting strategic points on the road to ensure restriction of movement.
However, at St Mary’s Primary School, North Bank polling unit in Makurdi, only ten out of the seventy registered voters were able to scale through as the remaining sixty were rejected by the card reader.
At the polling unit near The Voice newspaper, also in Makurdi, all the registered voters could not have themselves accredited up to 1pm as they were rejected by the card reader.
The card readers were also not working at Olachagbaha in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Ukwonyo, Utonkon in Ado Local Government and Ojoma, Allan Akpa in Otukpo Local Government Area.
