Certainly, these are not best of times for the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP in Ebonyi state, Chief Edward Nkwegu and his supporters

as their major backbone and financier, the incumbent governor of the state; Chief Martin Elechi has finally surrendered to the powers that be at the Aso Rock reports www.odogwublog.com.

It was gathered that the recent turn of event may not be unconnected to the recent meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and other top members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP at the Presidential villa where it was reached that for Elechi to be spared with the deadly harmer of impeachment, he must jettison the idea of continuous nursing of LP candidate to take over from him.

As a result, Governor Elechi who is currently battling for survival following the impeachment saga by the Ebonyi State House of Assembly has allegedly agreed to allow the will of the NWC of the PDP and some Ebonyi Abuja based political heavyweights supersede his ambition of installing his successor who is his in-law.

With this current arrangement, the governorship candidate of LP, Chief Nkwegu, (EDON) and indeed all candidates contesting elections on the platform of the party at all levels are currently at crossroads following the recent turn of event.

However, Governor Elechi has been described as not having any option than to jettison the interest of his in-law taking over from him on the platform of LP to save his own job as governor or continue supporting the party with PDP funds and lose his seat and face the anti graft agencies who are already lurking around, waiting for him to be impeached.

The LP candidate it was also gathered has been on the top watch list of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC alongside Governor Elechi of which only thing that will save them from the grip of the anti graft agency will be their voluntary withdrawal from the race.

A close source at the villa hinted that as it stands now, the LP governorship candidate is not sure of continuing running for the governorship as he has been severally invited at the villa where his dozier was shown and threatened with anti graft agency if he doesn’t withdraw voluntarily.

Some other top contenders on the platform of LP including the first son of the governor, Chief Elechi Elechi is also said to have been under serious pressure to jettison his senatorial ambition or face the similar fate his father and governorship candidate would face if they insist on continuing the race.

Though as at the time of this report, the governorship candidate of the party and some other top contenders have not accepted the directive, it was also gathered that Elechi is billed to brief the LP hierarchy on his arrival from Abuja and possibly dismantling the party ahead of April 5^th Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

But many political analysts believed that the recent move could be very injurious to the emergence of the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Dave Umahi as the Izzi people and indeed the old Abakaliki block may revolt and cast protest votes against the party which All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Senator Julius Ucha could be the major beneficiary.
