President Goodluck Jonathan has
revealed that the abducted chibok girl are alive. He spoke in an interview on
Africa Independent Television (AIT), programme Kakaaki.
The President said that Boko Haram
insurgents have not killed the over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Government
Secondary School Chibok, Borno state.
“The good story is that they’ve not been
killed”.
He continued: “They are still alive because when
terrorists kill they display. But we can’t just move in with artilleries and
clear the place because they may use them as shields, so we are working with
the global best practices”.
The president also promised that
Adamawa and Yobe states would be completely liberated from the terrorist group
before next week.
However, he admitted that his
government initially underestimated the Boko Haram sect.
“At the
beginning, we didn’t really estimate the capacity of Boko Haram”, he said.
Jonathan also said that Nigeria had
got between 60 and 65% of what was needed to prosecute the war against
terrorism. The president also disclosed that his administration would
completely privatise the nation’s refineries to ensure efficiency in the oil
sector.
While assuring his government’s
commitment to resolving the current fuel scarcity, he said the country had to
start refining her crude.
He also dismissed the reports that
the recent reduction of the fuel pump price from N97 to N87 was politically
motivated, saying it was necessitated by the decline in the global oil price.
He said Nigeria would stabilise in
so many sectors in the next four years if he is re-elected.
President Jonathan also expressed
his confidence in victory in the upcoming 2015 presidential election saying the
PDP still has an edge over every other party and he was not worried about the
outcome of the election.
“PDP
still has an edge over every other party, I am not worried about the outcome”.
He continued: “PDP still has better chances of winning a
national election.”
President Jonathan also indicated
that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party is still the dominant party
declaring that the opposition party would have fallen like a pack of cards if
it did not have elements of the PDP in it.
He said: “PDP is still the dominant party, there’s no polling unit where you
don’t have PDP members”.
“If you
remove the PDP elements in the opposition, it would just collapse like a pack
of cards”.
On the alleged plot to sack Jega,
President Jonathan said: “I’ve not
discussed with anybody on earth or even in my dream whether Jega will stay or
not and I advise politicians not to discuss things based on unsubstantiated
rumours”
He again insisted that there’s no
provision for an interim government in the country’s constitution.
