Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria
(ATWAP) has lauded the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and
Control (NAFDAC) for its regulations and
monitoring meant to sanitizing
packaged water industry in Anambra reports www.odogwublog.com .
The General-Secretary of ATWAP, Anambra Chapter, Mr Peter
Nweke, gave the commendation while speaking with newsmen yesterday in Neni
community,Anaocha local government area, Anambra state.
It would be recalled that NAFDAC had already commenced a
two-week NAFDAC Quality Water Monitoring Exercise in Anambra.
Nweke noted that before now, most packaged water producers
in the state were not following the right guideline and standard.
``Really, there is a problem somewhere but one thing you
would understand is that there can never have a perfect structure anywhere in
the World. There must be some people, who are sub-standard.
``I belief that the essence of this exercise is to correct
them and we are happy about it. Because some of us, some of our members who are
into water production don’t exactly know what it entails to produce good water.
``Most of them are traders; they are only doing it as a way
of making money; without knowing that this (packaged water) is food.
``That every human being takes unlike other products that
you can decide to avoid. But water, every human, every living being takes
water,’’ he said.
Nweke, who is also the Manager of Tonimas Table Water, said that the association was committed to working with NAFDAC regulations; adding: ``We want the best for the public and for them to be alive to keep patronizing us’’.
The Co-ordinator of NAFDAC in Anambra, Dr Christiana
Esenwah, said that the exercise was meant to safe-guard the general public
against unwholesome packaged table and sachet water, which is currently used by
most residents of the state.
Esenwah said that the agency was ready to assist and
collaborate with all packaged water producers in Anambra to produce wholesome
and quality water for public consumption.
``We are not here to throw people out of business or
job but to aid them get it right and continue in their packaged water
businesses; especially as we know that water producing business is one of the
striving cottage businesses in the country,’’ she said.
