Kano Pillars Football Club team was on Thursday afternoon attacked by armed robbers on the Abaji-Lokoja expressway forcing the team to return to Kano.
The incident occurred at about 1:15pm around Abaji axis some 60 kilometers from Abuja. They were dispossessed of their personal belongings, including pocket money and mobile phones.
The team was on its way to Owerri to honour the 2014/15 Glo premier league opening game against Heartland FC slated for March 7.
Nigeria Super Eagles fringe player and Kano Pillars FC marksman, Gambo Mohammed and four others are now receiving medical attentions in Lokoja following the attack.
Five players namely Gambo
Mohammed, Adamu Murtala and Otekpa Eneji, Reuben Ogbonnnaya and Ekpai Moses
Ubong were shot by the armed bandits were receiving treatment in a government
hospital in Lokoja, Daily Trust learnt.
He said the other players have been ordered
to return to Kano and the League Management Company has been notified of the
incident.The Kano state government was planning to move the injured players to a better medical facility outside Lokoja.
