8000 police men deployed to Anambra for election---as APGA seeks violence/intimidation-free elections

reports that over 8,000 policemen have been drafted to Anambra state for the
2015 presidential elections, so said the Commissioner of police
Anambra state ,
Mr Hosea Karma, yesterday during a patrol by the over 25 trucks of joint
security patrol team in Awkuzu, Oyi local government area.
Karma while assuring the citizenry of providing them
adequate security for them , warned trouble makers and thugs to ensure they don’t
come anywhere near the polling stations or face the risk of arrest and
prosecution.
The Anambra CP said : ‘’ We are united in Anambra
state as security people , we are working together with SSS, Army, Navy, NSCDC,
etc are together in this and we remain one family with one interest to fight
insecurity in the state. We are battle ready should anybody want to foment
trouble. Anybody who would dare us we will match force with force. We have
8,000 police men deployed to Anambra state not including others that would be strategically
located ….’.
Meanwhile , the
All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has called on Nigerians to steer clear
of violence before, during and after the general elections due to hold on March
28.
Chief Victor Umeh chairman of the party gave the charge at the launching of empowerment register for the youths in the wards of Anambra Central Senatorial district in his honour.
He urged the people to vote according to their conscience and not make money a primary consideration during the election.
He said that APGA have had an extensive and intensive campaign exercise towards the campaigns, expressing hope that its candidates will win all contested posts.
Umeh said that the empowerment register was part of his resolve to deliver purposeful representation as it would help him spread dividends of democracy to the 109 wards in the zone.
“He best thing that can happen in Nigeria and in Anambra in particular is to ensure that people are allowed to cast their votes without intimidation on the election days.
“They should be allowed to vote for those who have convinced them, what give rise to violence is when the wishes of the people are subverted or derailed.
“I also want to remind voters that people will come and by their conscience at the polling units, these are people who have not campaigned and do not have message of hope their people, if not they would have gone to meet their people and tell them their plans,” he said.
In his address, Ebere Okafor, president of APGA Solidarity Movement, organizers of the event, said the register would be used to collate names of youths in the area.
Okafor said the movement would continue to mobilize for realization of the senatorial mandate of Umeh, promising to cast and guard their votes.
"Following from this therefore, each of the 109 wards of the seven councils in this senatorial would have the opportunity to enroll in the chief Victor Umeh empowerment register so that they can benefit from is representation when he gets to the senate, " he said
