5 killed as hoodlums clash in Lagos

Palpable fear has gripped residents of Alaba, Mosafejo, Apasa and Ojo Road in Amukoko-Ajegunle areas of Lagos, as hoodlums battling for supremacy
engaged themselves in a free-for-all, leaving five persons dead, while many others sustained injuries.
There was a renewed clash among Apasa, Alaba and Amukoko boys, who had been in a protracted battle over the control of motor and tricycle parks in the area, started last Saturday on Apasa Street.
Eyewitness said that the hoodlums, who were armed with sophisticated rifles, pistols and machetes, also destroyed property worth millions of naira.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Ojo, said some Alaba boys first attacked Apasa on Saturday evening.
He said: “They sent people running in different directions and looted some shops and robbed some innocent passers-by. They also destroyed some vehicles moving to Mosafejo area where they perpetrated similar acts.
“The next day, some Asapa boys teamed up with Mosafejo boys to attack Alaba and killed five of its boys.”
Resident of these areas have blamed the continued hostilities by the hoodlums on politicians in the area, who engaged their services for political ends.
