Tension as Anambra community invaded by Masquerades, youths by midnight --police arrest 3 masquerades, 3 youths , others fled
The Anambra police yesterday morning
arrested 3 masquerades and 3 youths from Akpu, Orumba South local government
area for allegedly invading and destroying new town hall structures in Ndiokpaleke
, Orumba North local government area reports www.odogwublog.com.
The youths armed with dangerous
weapons numbering over 50 allegedly led the masquerades from Akpu to the
community, destroyed the Central Primary school signpost, torched the building and
the ongoing Civic center in the community by 1 am midnight.
The community was taken by surprise and
they alerted their President General, Mr Elochukwu Igboanugo who alerted the
Nigerian Police and summoned his youths to defend themselves , should the
police fail to intervene.
But the timely intervention of the
Nigerian police saved the day as before the Ndiokpaleke community youths and
masquerades as well as Vigilante mobilized; the DCO in Ajalli who got the
President General’s distress call dispatched a team of policemen.
Under the situation, the Akpu
community retraced on seeing the mobilization of the community but ran into the
police allegedly coming from the opposite direction and their combined efforts
arrested 3 masquerades and 3 youths while others escaped.
The President general of Akpu community
was called for 7 times allegedly by the President General of Ndiokpaleke when
the youths embarked on the journey but he was not picking allegedly.
It would be recalled that similar
thing happened in 2007 when the Akpu people allegedly invaded Ndiokpaleke and
after the purported invasion two persons were killed , one Martin Orji and Eric
Nwafor.
Chairman of the local government chairman
, Chief Okey Enekwe could not answer his
calls and could not reply a message sent to him via social media even when he
read it.
But efforts to get the views of the
President general of Akpu proved abortive while the Ndiokapaleke counterpart,
appealed on Governor Willie Obaino for intervention before lives would be lost
like in 2007.
Although, unauthorized police
sources confirmed the information , saying only 3 masquerades were arrested ,
the PPRO , Uche Ezeh claimed ignorant of the invasion as according to him the
DCO is yet to inform him of the development through the normal police signal.
He said it would be wrong to speak without knowing the details of the happenings.
