Following the deferment of the
Presidential Election earlier slated for February 14 to March 28 by Independent
National Electoral Commission, a member of House of Representatives in Ekiti
State,
Hon Opeyemi Bamidele has warned the Federal Government against testing
the will of Nigerians.
In spite of the shift in the dates,
Bamidele advised Nigerians to be resolute in their support for Major Gen
Muhammadu Buhari(retd) and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives
Congress, to deliver Nigeria from corruption, insecurity and the ravaging
unemployment that is pummeling Nigerian youths.
In a statement in Ado Ekiti,
Bamidele described the role of the military in the intrigues leading to the
postponement as bizarre and capable of dividing the Nigeria Army along ethnic
lines.
Bamidele said it was curious and
rather suspicious for the military to have come with a threat that it won’t be
able to guarantee security barely one week to election, saying this signaled
that the Peoples Democratic Party and its handlers had infiltrated the
military, making them becoming desperate by the day.
The Federal lawmaker said the manner
at which the postponement was done had cast a doubt on the independence of
INEC, adding that unbridled interference in the activities of the commission by
the presidency could return Nigeria back to 2007, when elections were being brazenly
rigged using security agencies and party thugs.
Bamidele urged the INEC Chairman,
Prof Attahiru Jega not to be intimidated by the power that be and ensure that
his loyalty always align with the constitution and to the Nigerian populace,
rather than a few cabals benefiting from the lopsidedness of the present
political situation in the country.
