Oyo
State House of Assembly yesterday sacked the caretaker chairmen of the 33 local
government areas of the state.
This
was after the six months tenure extension, which the House granted to the
caretaker chairmen in August 2014, elapsed this month.
The
extension, as gathered, followed a letter sent by the state Governor, Senator
Abiola Ajimobi, to the lawmakers in August last year, seeking the House
approval for tenure extension for the appointees.
The
House has therefore directed the Head of Local Government Administration (HoLA)
in each of the council to take over the administration of the council areas
with immediate effect.
Speaker
of the state House of Assembly, Mrs. Monsurat Sunmonu, made the announcement
during a plenary session of the lawmakers she presided over.
“The
HoLA’s who are to work with other transition council members are to take charge
in view of the expiration of the tenure of caretaker committee chairmen,” she
stated.
The
speaker also summoned the auditor general for the local government in the
state to appear before the House caucus next Monday.
She
also directed the auditor general to bring audited copies of the activities of
each of the 33 local government areas in the past three years.
The
House has adjourned till Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
