Obiano awards contracts for three High court complexes ----inaugurates new Customary Court complex in Amichi

reports that the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano yesterday
announced his administration has awarded
contracts for the construction of
three High courts in the three senatorial zones of the state.
His words: “I have awarded contracts for three High Courts
in the three senatorial zones of state, one at Ekwulobia, one at Ihiala and one
at Aguleri. These Courts will be a Modern Courts with the high standard that
will surpass the ones in entire Africa and my government will still do more for
my people
Obiano spoke while commissioning a new ultra
modern Customary Court complex at Amichi in Nnewi south local
government area of Anambra state.
The governor said that it was in line with his
administration’s commitment to developing all sectors and improving the lives
of Ndi Anambra across the state.
He said a society separated from justice is worse than
a gang of armed robbers, promising that he would continue to promote the cause
of justice and equity so that the poor will also be protected.
The governor restated the commitment of his
government to execute and transform the entire Judiciary sector in Anambra
state.

reports that Obiano urged the people of the community to vote for all the APGA
candidates and President Goodluck Jonathan asthey are the people he can work
with to make Anambra state “Light of the Nation” which the symbol implies.
“Jonathan is our only hope. He is the only person who can
take this country to the promised land. Among the candidates running for the
Presidency, Dr. Jonathan offers Nigeria the best chance at national integration
and unity. So, we must vote for him. We must also vote for all the candidates
standing for election on the platform of APGA here in Anambra and other states,
to enable us work for you people. We must sweep every available position in
Anambra State and we must take Anambra state to a greater height.”
Earlier in his welcome address, His Lordship, Hon Justice
Samuel Okoye, President of Customary Court of Appeal, Anambra state
expressed delight over the historic occasion of the commissioning of the new
building.
He commended the governor for gracing the occasion,"
there is no doubt that Your Excellency 's presence is a clear manifestation of
your love and burning desire to ensure the transformation of the entire
Judiciary of Anambra state, particularly the Customary Court of Appeal and the
Customary Courts of the state."
Okoye further disclosed that Anambra state as at today
commands a total number of thirty four (34) Customary Courts. He also lamented
what he described as obsolescence, antiquity and dilapidation of the structures
erected by Colonial Masters in the 1900's, 1920's and 1930's that according him
still housing the courts long after the Colonial Masters have left.
He regretted that," most of the buildings now are very
unsafe for human use, but our Customary Courts, for want of better alternative
are still forced to use them, their insufficiency, unsafety and
unfashionability notwithstanding. "
However, he expressed optimism that the rescue mission of
His Excellency Governor Obiano will replace the antiquated, archaic, dilapidated,
unfashionable and unsafe Customary Court structures dotting the landscape of
Anambra state with modern and fashionable ones.
According to Justice Okoye, "the new building was
financed 100% by Anambra state government spanning through your predecessor.
Mr Peter Obi and the current administration led by Chief Willie
Obiano". He called on Ndi Anambra to give Governor Obiano all the
support he needs having demonstrated very clearly in just about 9 months that
he has the wherewithal to take Anambra State to the next level. He prayed God
to continue to give him the wisdom and strength to do more in his stay in
office.
Former Commissioner for Information, Culture and
Tourism, Anambra state, Chief Maja Umeh, lauded the efforts of Obiano’s
administration to open up the grass roots and appealed to those who are going
to be ministers in the temple of justice of the court to dish out justice and
fairness.
The
event was graced by top government functionaries, amongst who were Secretary to
the State Government, Hon Oseloka Obaze, His Lordship, The Hon Chief Judge
Anambra state, Justice P.N.C Umeadi, Former Commissioner for Information
Anambra state, Chief Maja Umeh, The Hon. Attorney -General/Commissioner for
Justice, Anali Chude Esq, Traditional Rulers, Clergy men and Members of the
state House of Assembly and some political aspirants whom the Governor
Presented at the event among other dignitaries.
