Obiano and First Lady Osodieme, Umeh,APGA candidates stoned in Agulu over utterances against Peter Obi in his community

Governor Anambra state and Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) , Chief Willie Obiano and the National chairman of APGA/ Senatorial candidate of  Anambra central senatorial zone, Chief Victor Umeh alongside other APGA leaders escaped unhurt
weekend when some aggrieved youths attacked them at Agulu during a campaign rally.

But some party chieftains were not so lucky to escape like the chairman of Anaocha local government area , Hon Ike Obi who was stoned seriously and beaten to pulp among others with broken heads and many vehicles were damaged.

www.odogwublog.com reports that trouble started after Governor Obiano spoke disparagingly against the former Governor of Anambra state, Chief Peter Obi, an Agulu indigene was a cunning and tricky human being.

But the words were viewed as offensive to the youths of the community for their son who they believed did much for them and immediately the erstwhile peaceful environment changed to a booing environment with some youths shouting pro PDP and Peter Obi’s songs.

Sensing danger and misfire, Obiano assuaged the tensed environment by donating N5 Million to various groups in the community there to share and the crowds were indeed calmed.

The Governor alongside his wife Chief Mrs Eberechukwu Obinao and Chief Umeh with their entourage and other APGA candidates for the zone sensed danger and hurried to their vehicle to leave the scene but large crowd of youths have gathered in front of the hall.

On sighting them heading to their cars, the youths who were visibly angry started shelling and throwing stones and sachet water on their convoy.

The attack affected many of the campaign vehicles and the APGA supporters inside the vehicles.
Aggrieved youth said ,"How can the governor come to our town and insult our own son? That's an abomination, we can't let that happen. Peter Obi is our brother and he did a good work for the people of Anambra state so why should Obiano and his wife come to Agulu our land to insult him?"

"Agulu people will always stand for justice and we will never let anyone use money to buy us. Who is Obiano and his wife to challenge and abuse Okwute (Mr Peter Obi). They should leave him alone to rest and mind their business. Agulu is for Peter Obi and that is final" he concluded

However the scenario before the attack was peaceful with Agulu community including the President General and the Traditional ruler endorsing the candidates of APGA in the election , saying APGA is their own and has done well for the community.

Earlier in her speech the wife of the governor Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano promised the people of Agulu town that her husband the Governor will fulfill all his campaign promises and even do more as she begged them to support her husband and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) by voting massively for all the candidates of APGA.

She revealed that Chief Willie Obiano was instrumental in former governor Peter Obi's second tenure bid by donating  huge financial resources  for his campaign.

On his part, the Presidential General of Agulu, Chief Paulinus Anagbaoso and the Igwe of Agulu town Chief Innocent Obodoakor in their separate speeches commended the governor and his team for visiting the town and pledged their support to the governor and the candidates of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and urged the governor to continue with the good works he was doing in Agulu town.

The governor also used the occasion to present the APGA candidate for Anambra central senatorial zone Sir Victor Umeh, candidate for Njikoka,Anaocha and Dunukofia federal  constituency Mr Dozie Nwankwo and the candidates for Anaocha 1 and 2 state constituency Mr Zubis and Mr Ejike Okechukwu respectively to the people of Agulu.

Anaocha Local Government Chairman, Hon Ike Obi indeed mobilized the community for the visit but was rather unfortunate that he was the one beaten up.
The same convoy were allegedly stoned and pelted water at Njikoka local government area headquarters Abagana for allegedly denying their son Mr Tony Nwazojie APGA ticket.
But it would have been rather reported that the people of Agulu, an important town in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State have pledged total support to the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano and unanimously endorsed the APGA Senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Chief Victor Umeh and other candidates of the party in the coming elections was it not for the ugly stoning and pelting that destroyed the beautiful event.
Also speaking on behalf of other 10 village heads in Agulu, Mr. ChukwudiIgwe commended Governor Obiano for keeping his promise of continuity and assured the governor and his team that the people of Agulu would queue behind APGA candidates en-masse in the coming elections to enable the governor sustain the tempo of good governance.
The President of the General Women Wing of the Town Union, Mrs. Theresa Akubueze assured that the women of the area would throw their weight behind the governor and APGA candidates in the coming elections.
Speaking in a similar vein, a community leader and Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Inter-party Affairs, Chief Ben Obi noted that Agulu people had demonstrated in clear terms their support for APGA in the coming elections.
In his own remarks, the APGA Senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Chief Victor Umeh observed that Governor Obiano had continued to fulfill the promise of continuity which entails the completion of all on-going projects in the community and recalled that Agulu people had over the years given APGA total support as a platform that would facilitate the realization of the Igbo Agenda and the best interest of the people.
Chief Umeh further assured the people that their son, the former governor of the state, Chief Peter Obi was not forced out of the party as was widely speculated but left on his own volition.
In her own remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mrs Azuka Enemo described Governor Obiano as a man of courage who has remained consistent in his implementation of his policies and programmes.
Mrs Enemo further noted that the governor has created a secure environment for investments to thrive in order to create employment opportunities for the youth.
Meanwhile, Governor Obiano also restated that his administration was working on all projects initiated by Chief Obi and would complete all of them in record time in spite of the dwindling revenue profile of the state resulting from the fall in oil prices. He assured them that new projects would soon be awarded in the community.
Governor Obiano thanked the Agulu people for the support they have given to his administration and APGA so far and assured them that there was no animosity between him and the former governor of the state, Chief Peter Obi, who is from the town.
According to him, the only difference between them is in the area of political ideologies as Chief Obi now belongs to another political party. Governor Obiano further extolled the achievements of his predecessor and assured the Agulu community that he would work hard to surpass him in the area of providing amenities to them.
Said he; “Let me assure you that I will work very hard to develop Agulu even more than my predecessor did. I will work for you. I will expand development in Agulu. As most of you here know, I do not promise what I have no intention to do. Whatever I say is what I will do,” the governor assured.
