MASSOB warns Abia govt over harassment, killing of members

Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has decried alleged  incessant harassment and killing of their members by agents of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government in Abia State.

The group warned that such act was capable of causing mayhem in the state if the activities of the government was not put on check. The National Assistant Information Officer of MASSOB, Mr. Sunday Okereafor, who stated this in Umuahia, also alleged that the PDP government in the state, had been attacking their offices and sponsoring thugs to kill their members at Asa Nnentu Area of Aba .

Okereafor  alleged that government agents came to their offices frequently with machetes and guns to attack them and dispossess them of their goods and money, an action which might  cause breach of the peace and fuel violence.

He said MASSOB was not an organisation that thrived in violence, but at the rate the government agents were going, they might be forced to resist them one day.

“The energy they apply in attacking our members could have been directed towards the payment of salaries they owe civil servants, teachers, pensioners, contractors and many other people. Abia State, which is referred to as God’s own state, has been turned into debt owing state by the government. They are indebted to everyone who has one thing or the other to do with them,” Okereafor alleged.

He explained that if Abia State Government has the Abia people in mind, their concern now should be how to pay off the hordes of debt burden that was hanging on their neck, but instead of that, they use Abia  money to campaign for their handpicked candidates, who would take their place and continue in humiliating Abians when they leave office.

“Since the beginning of this year, pupils and students have not gone to school as a result of teachers’ strike due to nonpayment of salaries, yet the government is spending billions, trying to impose an unpopular candidate on Abia populace.

“The governorship candidate of PDP, who is yet to be accepted by the people is ordering MASSOB to remove Biafran flags from our offices, an open show of his tyrannical nature and that of  his predecessor. One who is yet to be voted in, you can imagine what he will do if he becomes the governor. When they push us to the wall, we will react and there will be mayhem in the South East,” Okereafor said.

He alleged that many of their members, who disappeared without traces were killed by Abia State government, adding that the victim of their recent cruelty, one Emmanuel Ubani, whom they attacked in his office,  escaped death by the whiskers .

“Some  evenings, police in Abia will pretend to be transporters, and start calling passengers going to Ngwa Road, and once all of you enter, they will drive  to Cameroun barracks and there, you will bail yourselves with N10,000.00 each. This is the evil that is going on in Aba. What kind of government is this ?”

He called on President Jonathan and the international community to intervene over the activities of Abia PDP government, warning that if there was any breach of peace, the government should be held responsible .
