ISIS Recruiting Nigerian students abroad , Federal Government warns Parents

Federal Government has disclosed that it has intelligence report that the dreaded global terror group,
ISIS is currently recruiting some Nigerian students schooling abroad.
The government however cautioned parents of such students to closely monitor the activities of their wards who may be susceptible to the antics of the promoters of the ISIS ideology.
Coordinator of National Information Centre, NIC, Mr. Mike Omeri disclosed this in Abuja, yesterday during the weekly security press briefing.
Omeri said: “The Centre also wishes to alert the nation of intelligence reports indicating the radicalisation of our youths through the social media and a variety of other sources. The reports show that these youths who are mostly children of the rich and affluent are being recruited into ISIS. We, therefore, call on parents and guardians, especially those whose wards are schooling abroad, to closely monitor the activities of these students who may be susceptible to the antics of the promoters of the ISIS ideology.
He stated further that while the Nigerian military forces are recording several victories against Boko Haram, several international efforts are being intensified by regional bodies to ensure that the scourge is permanently overcome.
“Specifically, on February 18, 2015 a Nigeria – Cameroun trans-border joint meeting was held to discuss security and also survey other areas of cooperation. This engagement is scheduled to continue and the next meeting will be held in six months. Equally, the Multi-national Joint Task Force set up by the member countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission is in the final stage of becoming operational. It is agreed that Nigerian will be in-charge of the actual take-off of the force which command will subsequently become rotational. This is clearly indicative of the desire of African Nations and sub-regional bodies to see the end of terrorism and insurgency in Africa, as a whole.
Speaking on the bomb attacks in Potiskum and Kano earlier in the week, the Director-General of National Orientation Agency, NOA, commiserated with the families of the dead and wounded victims of those attacks, and called for hyper vigilance on the part of Nigerians in the conduct of their daily affairs, particularly now that the military forces have continued to dislodge various Boko Haram groups, giving rise to their dispersal into new areas that never had Boko Haram presence.
“Recall that we had, in some of our earlier briefings reported the incidence of attacks against soft targets through suicide bombings. Recently, we have witnessed a number of such attacks, especially in Potiskum and Kano during which many lives were lost and several other persons were wounded, in addition to loss of property. Therefore, operators of motor parks, gardens, schools, churches and mosques need to exercise extra caution to be able to checkmate the activities of these fugitive terrorists who are now resorting to attacking soft targets, in the face of the onslaught unleashed by the military forces.
He said more successes have been recorded in the anti-terror campaign since February 18 by the Nigerian military forces in the North-Eastern part of the country.
“This success includes the stiff resistance against insurgent incursion into the country at several locations and the recapture of several towns and settlements which had Boko Haram presence earlier. These include: Gabchari, Abba Jabari, Gajigana, Gajiram, Damakar, Kumaliwa, Bosso, Wanti, Jeram and Karisungul which are currently under the firm control of our gallant troops. These are in addition to Hong, Mubi North/South, Maiha, Michika, Shuwa, Wuro Gyambi, Gombi, Vimtim, Uba and Bazza (Adamawa); Mafa, Gamboru-Ngala, Malam-Fatori, Abadam, Marte, Monguno and Baga (Borno); Gujba and Gulani (Yobe) which had earlier been liberated.
“The Centre, therefore, calls on Nigerians to be patriotic and appreciate the effort and sacrifice of our military and security personnel for the selfless manner in which they are prosecuting the anti-terror war. We also call on our citizens to shun the trend of cynicism among some unpatriotic Nigerians who have chosen to ascribe the recent success in the anti-terror war to external efforts, instead of the untiring efforts of Nigerian troops.
