The
former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Muhammad
Sanusi today assumed office as New Emir of Kano.
He
was presented with his staff of office by the king makers of the Emirate
council signifying the official beginning of his time as the Emir of Kano after
taking his oath of office. The Kano state governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa
Kwankwaso performed the ceremony.
Sanusi
has been on the throne since the 8th of June, 2014 after the demise of the
immediate past Emir, Alhaji Dr. Ado Abdullahi Bayero.
Speaking in Hausa during the occasion at the
palace yesterday, he reminded politicians to behave responsibly as the general
election is just around the corner.“I call on politicians to shun all actions that can cause crisis and to start and end the elections peacefully”.
He also urged district heads in his domain “to give priority to security matters, education especially of the girl-child and the economy of the nation”.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, promised to continue the legacies left behind by his predecessor, the late Alhaji Ado Bayero who ruled for 51 years such as “the promotion of religious piety and harmony, peace, welfare of the citizenry, protection of their rights and also to continue to offer of useful advises to leaders”.
He thanked Generals Yakubu Gowon and Muhammadu Buhari for always showing concern over matters affecting his palace.
“General Gowon was not in the country, but when we informed him of this day, he left his wife abroad and came here,” he said.
He thanked those who made his ascension possible, his advisers as well as the governor and gave kudos to members of the National Assembly, the Sultan of Sokoto, Shehu of Borno, Oba of Lagos and other monarchs as well as civil servants and district heads who graced the occasion.
