A security guard at Lagos Street in
Benin City identified as Abubakar Shuaibu has been killed by armed robbers.
The robbers broke into three bureau
de change shops in the street and also looted other stores.
Lagos Street is a commercial nerve
centre in Benin City.
The body of late Shuaibu was found
in the morning when the shop owners resumed for business activities.
The deceased was stabbed in the
stomach while his colleague Haruna Zakari was stabbed on the leg and was found
tied to the ground.
In 2014, three teenagers sleeping in
one of the stores in the area were beheaded.
The owners of the shops refused
comment on the matter, but the body of late Shuaibu was later taken away for
burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Chairman of Hausa Community in
the state, Alhaji Badamasi Salihu, said killing of security guards in the area
was a common phenomenon.
He said those that beheaded the
three teenagers were yet to be arrested.
Salihu appealed for more protection
from security agencies.
The Spokesmen for Edo State Police
Command, Joseph Edogiawerie, confirmed the killing, saying investigation has
commenced into the matter.
