National
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu yesterday,
relived the pains the party went through following the defection of five of its
governors to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, saying however,
that the worst days were over.
The
governors who defected to the APC included Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers; Rabiu
Kwankwaso of Kano; Aliyu Magatakada Wammako of Sokoto; Abdulfatah Ahmed of
Kwara and ex- Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State respectively.
In
a statement yesterday in Abuja, Muazu noted that party was now out of the shock
it suffered as a result of the governors exit adding that the situation had
been reversed as the PDP was now pummelling the APC to submission.
He
said that with the PDP now rounding off its campaign, it was certain that the
party was coasting to victory.
Muazu
said that the PDP was very much on course for a deserved victory at the
February 14 presidential poll, adding, “We have put our best foot forward and
in reviewing the campaign tour so far, I have no reason to doubt that victory
will be the reward of our hard work, In sha Allah.”
The
statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Tony Amadi, read in part,
“When the campaign started, it was clear that the opposition had gone far in
distorting the achievements of our great party. When they shout change, they
don’t tell Nigerians what they want to change. Do they want to change the sound
educational policy of the PDP which has been hailed all around the country as
the route to transformation of the country’s democratic institutions?
“In
the North, the popularity of our Almajiri schools system has finally solved the
educational backwardness in the three zones of the giant North. We shall follow
this up with a revolution in the Nomadic Education system started by the
Babangida regime in the 1980’s and we would have wiped out ignorance.
“On
insurgency, positive results are emerging from the combined forces of our
neighbours who have realized that Boko Haram is not just a threat to Nigeria,
but also a major regional threat and the need for a combined effort to wipe out
this Al-Qaeda inspired menace should be dealt a fatal blow by a
combined regional force. What will APC change in tackling insurgency as they
have claimed every day of the campaign? Absolutely nothing! All that they will
change is that they will apply their propaganda.”
