TRAGEDY struck yesterday as a Customs Officer attached to the Port
and Multi-Purpose Terminal Services, PTML,
command of the Nigeria Customs
Service, NCS, rode his boss’ power bike under a moving petroleum tanker and
died immediately.
The officer, identified as Muri was
test driving the power bike which Vanguard gathered had just been
acquired by his boss, identified as Olagunju, when the accident occurred.
An eyewitness told Vanguard
that the accident has thrown the entire command into a mourning mood as the
boss of the deceased was also shaken by the accident.
The eyewitness said: “The man was
test driving the power bike that was bought by one of the gate officers at PMTL
and he was on top speed, he ran under a truck that was moving and in a few
minutes the man was lifeless”
When Vanguard visited the
command, the Public Relations Officers of the command, Mr. Steve Okonmma was
seen making frantic efforts to reach the family of the deceased through his
(Muri) mobile phone.
It was gathered that while the
tanker driver escaped arrest, an articulated vehicle that was also involved in
the accident was promptly arrested.
It was also confirmed that when the
command eventually reached the deceased family, they requested that he should
be buried immediately in accordance with Islamic rites.
