Borno State has so far lost no fewer than 10 construction staff to Boko Haram and 12 working machinery including earth- moving equipments/plants and brand new Hilux pickups,
confiscated in high risk areas in different parts of the state, to insurgents.
The permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of works, Engineer Mohammed Abba Sanda disclosed this while briefing the newly appointed Commissioner of Works, Hon. Usman Zannah while on a familiarisation visit to BORMA and inspection of some ongoing roads and drainage networks to assess the level of preparedness of the agency and the ministry to complete all the projects before the expiration of the first tenure of Governor Kashim Shettima.
Responding, the Commissioner, Usman Zannah sympathised with those who lost their loved ones as a result of the Boko Haram activities and prayed God to grant eternal rest to souls of the deceased and quick recovery for the injured.
Zannah disclosed that, governor Shettima’s administration has the highest number of rural roads under construction since the history of the state, especially the ongoing construction of roads and drainages in difficult terrains in the state and attributed it to adequate funding and prudent management of scarce resources at the disposal of the state government.
He assured that, already, government has embarked on the construction of road linking the federal government’s 330KVA transmission sub-station along Maiduguri- Molai-Damboa -Biu Highway.
