The
war of words between Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the gubernatorial
candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Nyesom Wike, over corruption
allegation against the governor continued yesterday as the Chief of Staff,
Rivers State Government House, Sir Tony Okocha,
challenged the former Minister
to publish the documents relating to the corruption, as he earlier
threatened.
While
addressing his supporters at Rumuobiakani in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area
recently, Wike accused Amaechi of spending N72,000,000 (seventy two million
Naira ) on APC in Chattam House in the UK, among others.
But
Governor Amaechi, on Thursday, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. David
Iyofor, described Wike’s allegations as ‘tissues of lies’, ‘Tales by
moonlight’ and Wike, as a ‘drowning man’.
Reacting
further to the allegation against their boss, Tony Okocha, who is also
contesting as a House of Representatives member on the platform of All
Progressives Congress (APC), decried what he called, ‘exhibition of intellectual
emptiness’ by those who also spoke at the rally, where Wike made the
allegations.
Okocha
said: “In the case under reference, speaker after speaker dwelt on attempt to
denigrate the towering personality of an internationally acclaimed paragon of
excellence Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Executive Governor of Rivers
state, the question on the lips of many is : Is Governor Amaechi running for
any elective position,? More worrisome is the fact that some of these speakers
included those who plugged Rivers, purse in pursuit of their inordinate
ambition, those who couldn’t say ‘Good morning Nigeria’ in their 8 years of
misrepresentation at the National Assembly. Those who are as inconsistent as
the pendulum in a physics laboratory, those who like ant run to sugar, they
are obviously on the wrong side of history in many ways. The crescendo of this
intellectual poverty played out when the ill-equipped Nyesom Wike took the rostrum,
instead of standing up to the noble challenge of cataloguing the policies and
programmes he would pursue if elected, relapsed it in his usual ragamuffin
style. He effectively read a self authored script which was a mere concoctment
of blatant lies.”
“Again,
in a desperate attempt to malign and disparage the role model and
quintessential gentleman of Governor Amaechi, I challenged these enemies of the
state now masquerading as conspirators like in the case of Williams
Shakespeare’s Macbeth to prove further the veracity of allegation by publishing
a Certified True Copy of the documents being referred to.”
He
wondered why Wike failed to publish the documents relating to the alleged
corruption as he said. “Wike’s inability to make good his boost to publish the
memo in today’s (Thursday) dailies underscores the fact that his vituperations
are couched in tissues of lies and should hide his face in shame.
“How
can a man who aspires to the coveted office of Governor concocts and peddles
lies of such magnitudes? This goes to realm of moral depravity, Shame!
