Cameroon’s Information Minister, Issa Bakari,
has said no fewer than 800 Boko Haram fighters have attacked Fotokol in the
north of the country, where 90 civilians have been killed.
Bakari also said
on Thursday that the extremists, which started their attack on Wednesday from
Gamboru area of Nigeria, burned churches, mosques and villages and slaughtered
youths, who resisted joining them to fight the Cameroonian forces.
Hundreds of
insurgents were killed on Wednesday along with 13 Chadian and six Cameroonian
personnels, the defence minister, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo, said.
At least 91
civilians have been killed and most of the more than 500 who have been wounded
cannot be taken quickly to hospital, he said. There was no way immediately to
confirm the account independently.
